Tip Tuesday: Job Search Tips

Whether Freshmen, Sophomore, Junior, or Senior it is never the wrong time to begin your search for job or internship; however, sometimes that search can be tricky. Here are a few tips that will hopefully make your next search a little easier.
1.       The Early Bird Gets the Worm
It is so important to begin your search as early as possible to avoid unnecessary stress and be exposed to as many opportunities as possible. You don’t want to miss the application deadline for the internship or job of your dreams, or be forced to settle because of a deadline constraint.
2.       There’s No Yellow Brick Road in Job Searching
No one source will have all of the jobs that are out there so pursue multiple sources when conducting a job search. Our Hire-A-Vol system is a great place to start, but is by no means the only place where students find great jobs and internship opportunities. Also, don’t forget the importance of networking; most employees know about potential job/internship openings before many other sources.
3.       Think Outside of the Box
Don’t be too bound to only searching for jobs that have the specific title of your major. While there are some majors that have a direct job titles, most don’t. Be sure to think about and pursue other occupational fields because they could lead to diverse experiences that will later set you apart, and help you stand out.
4.       Be Persistent
All job/internship searches are not created equal. Sometimes, you may get lucky and find the perfect opportunity for you within the first week. Other times, it may take a month or two, so be persistent and continue to check all avenues and turn over every rock until you find something that will work for you!

Happy Hunting!
