How have these resources prepared you for the internship, co-op, or part/full - time search process?

The job fair prep event gave me a great understanding of how the event works and what recruiters are looking for. The resume critique, along with the resume writing handbook, helped me get a more formal format for my resume as well as a better understanding of what to include. The Supply Chain Job Fair was the most important event to me, as it allowed me to network with many top companies. This event allowed me to have one on one conversations with recruiters, which opens many doors.

What organization have you worked for or will you be working for and where?

This past summer I worked as a Project Intern for DHI Corp. in Mequon, Wisconsin, working with the purchasing department. This spring I will be spending six months in Atlanta, Georgia with Georgia-Pacific as a Supply Chain Intern.

What was you most enjoyable experience or what are most you looking forward to?  

 What I am most looking forward to is my internship with Georgia-Pacific. Being from Wisconsin and attending The University of Tennessee has allowed me to experience new surroundings. The university, along with Georgia-Pacific, are again allowing me to experience a new city and new surroundings. I am very grateful for not only the opportunity to study in a great supply chain program, but also the opportunity to contribute to a great company like Georgia-Pacific. I am also looking forward to creating more relationships within the supply chain program and with professionals from across the industry.

Education Job Fair

EDUCATION JOB FAIR 

Looking for a job educating the children of the future? The Center of Career Development has the perfect job fair for you! 

Coming up we have the Education Job Fair being held at the Holiday Inn at World’s Fair Park. The event will be going on from 9 AM – 12 PM and is open to all licensed teachers along with those looking to find a job upon graduation. Professional dress is highly recommended and we also recommend having numerous copies of your resume. 

Job Fair Tip: Have your 30 second commercial about yourself down packed. This consist of being informed about the organization you’re meeting with and giving them a brief synopsis of where you’ve been, where you are, and where you’re going.

What Center for Career Development resources have you used that led to an internship, co-op, or part/full - time job opportunity?

Hire-a-Vol, Career counselor, & Networking sessions

How have these resources prepared you for the internship, co-op, or part/full - time search process?

I felt very confident going to interviews with high level people because I had already gotten to shake the hands of many executives through UT’s Center for Career Development programs and practice speaking and interviewing.

What organization have you worked for or will you be working for and where?

I have held an internship with Lowe's in North Carolina, and I have gotten my first post-graduate job (in December!!) with Amazon.

What was your most enjoyable experience or what are most you looking forward to?

I have always loved the events put on by the Center for Career Development office. Specifically, the career fairs and the supply chain forum networking sessions. I am looking forward to mentoring other juniors and seniors in my field long after I have transitioned into being a UT alum.

Success Story: Eric Hardeman

Gaining an internship entails more work than it may appear at the start. There is a lot of behind-the scene work that goes into it. Eric Hardeman is a student who has taken full-advantage of available resources to make the process much more manageable and gain an internship with Nissan Motor Company. He has visited the Center for Career Development for a resume critique, practice interview and career consultation. He took the class BUAD 320 and utilized Hire-A-Vol! When asked how these resources prepared him for the internship, Eric replied "They prepared me to interact with potential employers and to have a better understanding of what they are looking for." He feels as if the most exciting part is "getting to see the techniques and ideas that we learned in the classroom get put into action in the real world." You're doing an awesome job! Keep doing what you're doing and you'll go far!

Quick Tip Tuesday

As the semester is coming to a close, we all get a little bit on-edge as we try to get our grades up to where we want them to be and finish those end-of-semester projects and exams. As my stress level rises, I feel as if my appetite does as well. My time is limited and I just don’t have time to spend on cooking meals, nor do I even know where to begin if I want them to be remotely healthy. I rely on comfort foods (and fast food; let’s face it, Chik-fil-a calls my name on a daily basis) to pull me through to the end of the year, and just tell myself, “It’s okay, I’ll eat healthy when the semester is over.” This year, instead of letting my diet go to the way-side while I focus my attention on studying, I decided to look up some quick and easy, healthy alternatives that will be just as satisfying. How have these resources prepared you for the internship, co-op, or part/full - time search process?

Freshman year I needed a part-time job, and I found that job through Hire-A-Vol. Through BUAD: 320 with Erin, I chose my major - Public Relations. After almost a year with my first job, they had to cut the secretary position. They gave me a two-week notice, and within that I found a job at 21st Mortgage. I was promoted to Social Media Coordinator there, and after a year and three months, I needed more experience in PR, so I attended the Communications Job Fair and met Sophie with Ackermann PR. I have held an intern position with them for two semesters. Within that time, I spoke with Mary Mahoney about working in Athletics and she connected me with my now boss.

What organization have you worked for or will you be working for and where?

During college, I've worked for Smee+Busby Architects downtown in Market Square, 21st Mortgage also downtown - two blocks from market square, Ackermann PR off of Northshore, and the athletic department.

What was your most enjoyable experience or what are most you looking forward to?

I can't say that I've had one amazing experience. I think all of my experiences have led me to where I am today. I still haven't chosen the industry I want to work in, but I definitely have options because of all the experience I have. Pretty much any success in job hunting I've had, the Center for Career Development has had a huge part. The most enjoyable people I've met are Erin and Mary. They've been two beacons of light in my professional journey.
